ZANDVOORT, Netherlands (AP) — Monza is where the magic happens for Ferrari. And the Italian Grand Prix couldn't come at a better time. Formula 1's annual pilgrimage to the "Temple of Speed" this week brings a chance for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to rebound from race-ending crashes atthe Dutch Grand Prixon Sunday. It was only Ferrari's second Grand Prix this year without scoring points and Hamilton also picked up a grid penalty for Monza. The only Italian on the grid, Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, wants to "put in the trash" apractice crashat Monza last year, and make up forending Leclerc's raceon Sunday. Success has been rare for Italian drivers at Monza, though. Lewis Hamilton's 'unique experience' There isn't much that seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton hasn't done in F1, but racing for Ferrari at Monza will be something "unique." It's Hamilton's 19th race at the high-speed Italian track, but his first in red. He's spoken of wanting to enjoy his racing again after a difficult start with Ferrari, and insisted Sunday he'd made progress despite sliding into the barriers at the Dutch Grand Prix, "so to come away with that is definitely painful." Worse was to come later that day as Hamilton was handed a five-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix for failing to slow down enough for yellow flags before Sunday's race at Zandvoort. Hamilton had a taste of racing in red in Italy at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in May, anddedicated his result— fourth place — to the Ferrari fans. He still hasn't been able to get onto the podium in a Grand Prix race for Ferrari. "The support this team has around the world from the Tifosi is unmatched and so I'm sure it'll be a unique experience," Hamilton said last week. A history of excellence Even some of Ferrari's most troubled F1 seasons have been redefined by success at Monza, like in 1988 when Gerhard Berger took an emotional first win for the team since the death of founder Enzo Ferrari. Leclerc won there in his first Ferrari season in 2019 andagain last year. "I think our first experiences are going to be very different because Lewis has lived so many incredible moments already," Leclerc said Thursday. "I'm pretty sure that he will still be shocked by how special this week feels, but he's gone through a lot more than I had done back then. I just came from Sauber to win in Monza with Ferrari, which was unbelievable. So it was all at once and it was quite crazy." Antonelli's bad memories It's been 20 years since an Italian driver was on the Monza podium. Kimi Antonelli arrived in F1 with plenty of hype as the youngster succeeding Hamilton at Mercedes. Crashing 10 minutes into his first F1 practice session for Mercedes at Monza last year was a tough introduction. "I have amazing memories, but also really, really bad ones," Antonelli said last week. "It's going to be important to just have a clean weekend, clean sessions and just put in the trash what happened. I think it's going to be a really special weekend." Putting Antonelli in the car a year ago was a gamble and "maybe a mistake", Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff admitted Friday, but argued it would have been a major confidence-builder without the crash. Antonelli has two points finishes in his last nine races after a strong start to 2025. He was competitive on pace at the Dutch Grand Prix but it all went wrong when he tried to overtake Leclerc and instead tipped the Ferrari driver into the barrier. Mercedes has yet to formally confirm Antonelli or teammate George Russell for 2026. ___ AP auto racing:https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

Is Miami finally back? Carson Beck, 'Baby Jesus' help Canes pass first big test against Notre DameNew Foto - Is Miami finally back? Carson Beck, 'Baby Jesus' help Canes pass first big test against Notre Dame

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — They call him "Baby Jesus." Malachi Toney is 5-foot-11, quicker than a fox and faster than a cheetah — or so it seems on the football field. He's also 17 years old and should be in high school right about now rather than catching six passes for the 10th-ranked Miami Hurricanes. Nevertheless, here he is. So, too, is CJ Daniels, the former Liberty and LSU wideout whoseone-handed touchdown grab Sundaynight here at Hard Rock Stadium may go down as one of the best of the entire season — a sprawling, horizontal extension of a mitt that, surely, was glazed in glue. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] It's a wonder what quarterback Carson Beck is capable of with receivers who can, you know, catch. A year removed from leading a Georgia team that dropped more passes than any in the country, Beck opened his Miami career with a crew of wideouts that routinely got open, gobbled passes from the sky and helped their quarterback to a solid line: 20 of 30, 205 yards and two touchdowns. Beck's debut highlighted Sunday's top-10 duel here on a muggy, rainy and all-together soup-like night in South Florida.Miami beat sixth-ranked and defending national runner-up Notre Dame, 27-24, in a sort-of fashion that makes you think the Canes are real, like really real, like playoff and championship real. Receivers? Check. Quarterback? Check. But, to the surprise perhaps of many, Mario Cristobal's team has plenty more, or at least showed it for one night. An offensive line controlling the game? Yes. A defense making key stops? Mostly, yes. And — how about this? — a packed stadium at kickoff in the rain? Yes, that too. Despite it all, the Hurricanes needed to brave a fourth-quarter frenzy from the Irish. They blew second-half leads of 21-7 and 24-14; the offense stalled, gaining zero first downs on four consecutive possessions; and the secondary blew a ghastly coverage on a 68-yarder that Notre Dame turned into the tying touchdown with 3:21 left. A stunned Orange-clad crowd sat in silence. Oh, no. Not again? The Miami of the past two decades? The U that squanders leads? The one that disappoints so often in big games? "I told them we were going to go score," Beck said. The QB found Daniels again and Notre Dame made a costly pass interference penalty to put the Canes in position for their 47-yard go-ahead field goal from Carter Davis. Still, the Irish took possession with 64 seconds left — a touchdown to win, a field goal to tie and first-year starter CJ Carr at quarterback. They didn't get past midfield. Defensive freaks Akheem Mesidor and Rueben Bain Jr. sacked Carr on consecutive plays. The clock expired and the Hurricanes rushed the field, spilling off the sideline to a celebrating crowd that got to witness, perhaps, Cristobal's biggest win as head coach? Sure, Miami opened the season by winning at Florida last year and beat Clemson in overtime here two years ago. But this is Notre Dame, after all, the Canes' hated rival and the runner-up just a season ago. Aside from those fourth-quarter blues, Miami showed all of its pieces, the ones Cristobal has been recruiting, signing (paying these days, of course) and developing. The missing piece from years past, a defense that can make key and consistent stops, did enough in the debut of new coordinator Corey Hetherman, formerly at Minnesota and before that the lower rungs of football (Maine, Old Dominion and a place called Pace University). They swarmed and they suffocated. Through three quarters, the Irish gained 114 yards and had seven points. Sure, the end wasn't pretty. But did you see Beck and his new crop of wideouts? In one of the biggest transfers this offseason, Beck moved from Georgia to Miami for more than just a big payday (his contract is believed to be more than $3 million annually). He appears to have pass-catchers now. The Bulldogs receivers dropped 36 passes in 2024 — tops in the country. On this night, there was not a single drop. He found seven different receivers and, at one point, completed 12 straight passes. Toney, a rookie from Fort Lauderdale with that catchy Christian nickname (Baby Jesus!), hauled in passes of 13, 16 and 28 yards against, of all teams, the Catholics. On the ground, running back Mark Fletcher got 66 tough yards behind an offensive line that moved people for most of the night. Cristobal called Toney "special" and said the staff has been trying to "keep him a secret." Well, the cat's out of the bag. Baby Jesus has arrived. "He's just getting started," Cristobal said. It didn't matter that this was a wet-soaked, physical affair — a "muddy and bloody night," as Cristobal called it. His receivers made a show of it — rain or no rain. Daniels' 20-yard touchdown catch belongs on the year-ending 2025 highlight reel after Week 1. CJ DANIELS UNREAL ONE-HANDER GIVES MIAMI A 14-7 LEAD 🤯(via@TSN_Sports,@espn)pic.twitter.com/S5WWePP0Co — Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports)September 1, 2025 Down on the ground after taking a hit, Beck looked up to the Jumbotron for the replay of the catch and says he thought, "Oh, my gosh." The environment played into his new defense's nasty ways, too. The Canes forced an early fumble, slowed Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love (33 yards on 10 carries) and gota wild turnover on a freaky play in the third quarter. His team nursing a touchdown lead, Bain, the Canes' 275-pound defensive end, intercepted a pass that was tipped off another player's fingertips and then, actually, kicked into the air by a second player. He swooped underneath the tipped and kicked pass in a turnover that Miami turned into a field goal. MIAMI WITH A HUGE INT IN THE 4TH 😤(via@espncfb)pic.twitter.com/xBkY1RH7oQ — Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports)September 1, 2025 It all came in front of more than 66,000 roiling and rain-soaked fans — a veritable Orange bowl of soup here to root on their Canes against that hated independent team from up north. Former head coach Jimmy Johnson got the night started, cranking the Hurricane siren to a stadium packed at kickoff — something that long-time folks here say is a rarity. Are the Canes back? Is this the year? Cristobal, in his fourth year as coach, has been building up to this moment right? Five wins in his first year, seven wins the next, 10 wins last year. Remember, they were just one game away from advancing to the playoff. Perhaps it has finally arrived — the championship-contending Canes, destined to return to glory with a former SEC quarterback who's got himself a few pairs of trusting hands this time around.

San Diego FC spoils Son Heung-min's LAFC home debut with a 2-1 victoryNew Foto - San Diego FC spoils Son Heung-min's LAFC home debut with a 2-1 victory

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hirving Lozano and Anders Dreyer scored, and San Diego FC spoiled the home debut of Los Angeles FC forward Son Heung-min with a 2-1 victory Sunday night. After Dreyer got the tiebreaking goal in the 66th minute, Western Conference-leading San Diego held on against a barrage of LAFC chances to extend its unbeaten streak to six matches in MLS play. Denis Bouanga scored in the first half for LAFC, but the French star and Son both failed to convert golden scoring chances in the final minutes of expansion San Diego's first trip 120 miles north to BMO Stadium. CJ Dos Santos made three saves for the visitors, including a diving stop on Son in second-half injury time. Son was given a hero's welcome in his first match in Los Angeles, taking the field nearly four weeks afterLAFC announced the landmark signingof the South Korean star following his decade at Tottenham. Son played his first three matches on the road for LAFC, scoring a goal and immediately energizing the offense while his new club went unbeaten. The sellout crowd serenaded Son from the moment he stepped on the field for warmups in Los Angeles, which has the world's largest Korean population outside Korea. With thousands of fans wearing his jerseys for club and country, Son repeatedly waved to those cheering him on, and he exhorted the crowd into a frenzy right before kickoff. Bouanga put LAFC ahead in the 15th minute with a beautiful chip volley into San Diego's net off an excellent pass from teenager David Martínez. Bouanga's goal was his 15th of the season, all in his last 19 matches. But Lozano answered in the 33rd minute with a strike from the middle of the box for his ninth MLS goal. The Mexican national team star celebrated by taunting the famously raucous North End supporters' section. Dreyer put San Diego ahead with a individual effort by the Danish star, slipping behind LAFC's back line to collect Jeppe Tverskov's pass and juking two defenders before firing a left-footed shot for his 14th goal. LAFC controlled play for long stretches, but couldn't even it. Son hit a screamer toward the far top corner in the 45th minute, but Dos Santos made a superb leaping save. Hugo Lloris' long pass put Son in a one-on-one break in the 74th minute, but he couldn't get a shot off. Son then hit the post in the 78th minute with a shot from the top of the box. Bouanga got alone on the keeper in the 82nd minute, but waited too long to take a shot. Son's hard shot in the 92nd minute was saved by a diving Dos Santos. ___ AP soccer:https://apnews.com/soccer

Polish tennis star Kamil Majchrzak has met the young fan who had a hat snatched from him in a viral video clip after one of Majchrzak's matches at theUS Open. Majchrzak gave the boy aUS Open-branded bag of gifts, including another cap, and posed for photos alongside him, posting the encounter to his Instagram stories on Saturday. "Today after warm up, I had a nice meeting," he wrote. "Do you recognize (cap emoji)?" "Hello world, together with Brock, we wish you a great day," he wrote in another story. The two first encountered each other when Majchrzak was signing souvenirs for the crowd, after Majchrzak's second round win against Karen Khachanov on Thursday. The Pole took off his cap and appeared to pass it to the boy who was clutching a giant tennis ball with both hands. As the boy reached out to take the cap, a man standing next to him snatched it away and gave it to a woman who put it in her handbag despite the boy's visible protestations. The boy and the man appeared not to know each other. The clip subsequently went viral on social media, with one X post alone gathering 10 million views. Social media users identified the man as a Polish CEO, whose company was review-bombed with hundreds of one-star reviews on Trustpilot, all referencing the incident. CNN has not been able to independently verify the man's identity and has reached out to the company for comment. After seeing the incident, Majchrzak launched a search for the boy, posting on his Instagram story, per Sky News, "Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match." He later posted, according to Sky News, "I am impressed by the power of the Internet. We got it! All good now." After defeating No. 9 seed Khachanov, Majchrzak was forced to retire during his third round match against Leandro Riedi due to a torn intercostal muscle. Liverpool reportedly reaches deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle for record-breaking $176 million feeNew Foto - Liverpool reportedly reaches deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle for record-breaking $176 million fee

Alexander Isak is headed to Liverpool. The club reached a £130 million deal ($176 million) to sign the Newcastle star on Sunday night, according toThe Athletic's David Ornstein. That deal would break the Premier League transfer record set earlier this summer when Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for $153 million. Sunday's deal took place just in time before Monday's transfer deadline. Isak made it clear that he wanteded out of Newcastle. He has not played in any of the club's first three Premier League games this season. Isak posted earlier this month that his relationship with Newcastle "can't continue," though Newcastle appeared to reject his requests to leave at every step. Isak missed the team's trip to Asia and didn't play in a preseason friendly, either. The striker has been training with Real Sociedad, his former club, since July and has been away from Newcastle. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Liverpool intially sent Newcastle a £110 million offer for Isak, which Newcastle rejected. Now, having raised the price, Liverpool secured their latest record-breaking addition. Isak has spent the past three seasons with Newcastle, which marked his first stint in the Premier League in his career. He had a career-high 23 goals and six assists in 34 matches last season. He's previously spent time with Real Sociedad in La Liga and Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Liverpool, fresh off its Premier League title last season, opened the year with three straight wins, including a 3-2 victory over Newcastle on Monday. The franchise has spent more than £250 million this offseason, bringing in other big names like Hugo Ekitike, Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni. It's unclear when Isak will make his debut with the club. Liverpool will be back in action Sept. 14 on the road against Burnley.

BOSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran was running to third base when he realized he needed to pick up the pace again and head for home. Duran's inside-the-park homerSunday, a three-run shot, gave Boston the lead in the fifth inning and helped the Red Sox avert a three-game sweep witha 5-2 victoryover the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park. With Carlos Narváez on third and Alex Bregman on first, Duran lined the first pitch from starter Mitch Keller into the right-center gap. The ball got past right fielder Alexander Canario, who tried to cut it off, and rolled into the Fenway triangle. Then it caromed off the side wall of Boston's bullpen and briefly got past center fielder Oneil Cruz near the 420-foot sign in right-center. As the crowd roared, the speedy Duran raced around thirdand easily beat a wide relay throw to the plate standing up. "When I was starting to round second, I was like, OK, I've got to make sure I get to three," he said. "I thought I was going to be standing up (at third). I found myself kind of lay back a little bit, then (third base coach Kyle Hudson) came back to me waving and I was like, I've got to get going again." It was the second inside-the-park homer by the Red Sox at Fenway Park this season.Wilyer Abreu hit one on June 30and became the sixth player in major league history with a grand slam and an inside-the-park homer in the same game. "I was just happy I didn't have to slide after all," Duran said. "I was like, this is going to be more of a fall than a slide." Duran's inside-the-park shot was the first of his career. "Everybody's doing the same thing in the dugout," Boston manager Alex Cora said, comparing his players and coaches to the cheering crowd. "We become fans," he explained. If he doesn't, he would receive a $300,000 buyout unless both sides accept a mutual option otherwise. The 37-year-old closer is in the midst of one of his best seasons to date in his first campaign in Boston. He holds a career-best 1.04 ERA in 57 games and 52 innings pitched, and he converted his 27th save of the season Sunday while helping the Red Sox grab a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Chapman has gone 15 games without allowing a hit, the longest in Red Sox history. That's the longest streak in Major League Baseball since Toronto Blue Jays closer Sergio Santos did so in 2013. Chapman has 362 saves in his career. The Cuban native got his start in the league in 2010 with the Cincinnati Reds, where he spent six seasons before a seven-year run with the New York Yankees. He's also spent time with the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates. With their win Sunday, the Red Sox are 76-62 record. That has them third in the AL East, 3.5 games behind the Blue Jays in the division race. Boston is currently on pace to secure a wild-card spot. That would send the franchise back to the postseason for the first time since 2021.

Aaron Judge ties Yogi Berra for fifth on the Yankees' career homers listNew Foto - Aaron Judge ties Yogi Berra for fifth on the Yankees' career homers list

CHICAGO (AP) — When Aaron Judge returned to the dugout after his first-inning homer, Yankees manager Aaron Boone yelled "Yogi!" in the direction of his star slugger. Yogi indeed. Judge moved into a tie with Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra for fifth in franchise history when he hit his 358th career homer duringSunday's 3-2 lossto the Chicago White Sox. "Not getting (the win) kind of stings," Judge said, "but you know, get a chance to tie one of the greatest if not the greatest Yankee in homers is, it's pretty special. The way Yogi played the game, what he meant to these pinstripes, you knew how much it meant being a New York Yankee to him. I feel the same way. "I'm honored to wear this jersey, so it's pretty cool to be on that list with him." Judge drove an 0-2 cutter from Martín Pérez deep to center for a one-out solo shot. Judge's 43rd homer of the season had a 112.6 mph exit velocity and traveled 426 feet. He made a bid for another homer in the third, but his drive went off the wall in center for a double. He also singled in the fifth and popped out for the final out of the seventh. Batting with a runner aboard with one out in the ninth, he flied to center. "Just missed the last one," Boone said. "I thought he made the right move on the pitch. Looked like he got a hanger there that I thought he put a great swing on. He got under it a little bit and hit it straight up in the air. So those things happen." The 33-year-old Judge also connected for a solo homer inNew York's 11-inning victoryat Chicago on Saturday night. The two-time AL MVP and seven-time All-Star batted .241 (20 for 83) with six homers, 12 RBIs and a .417 on-base percentage in 24 games in August. Next up for Judge and the Yankees is four consecutive series against playoff contenders, beginning with the opener of a three-game set at Houston on Tuesday night. "That's what we want," said Judge, who signeda $360 million, nine-year contractwith New York in December 2022. "It's coming down to the wire. We want to play the best teams and especially getting down the stretch here into the postseason, this is what it's all about." Hall of Famers Babe Ruth (659 homers), Mickey Mantle (536), Lou Gehrig (493) and Joe DiMaggio (361) are on top of the Yankees' career homers list. Judge's drive produced the first change in the franchise's top five since Mantle hit his 203rd career homer on Aug. 7, 1957, snapping a tie with Bill Dickey. Judge was selected by New York in the first round of the 2013 amateur draft and made his debut with the Yankees in 2016. Berra was 90 when he died in 2015. "Didn't get to see him too much. He was definitely around over at big league camp," Judge said. "But he was a special individual. A lot of the veteran guys talk highly of him. It was probably some of their favorite memories, you know, coming to spring training was having a chance to talk with him during camp, just hear some of his stories." Judge was activated from the 10-day injured list on Aug. 5 after being sidelined by a flexor strain in his right elbow. He has been serving as the team's designated hitter, buthe could return to the outfieldat some point this season. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Full of expectations, Arch Manning struggles as top-ranked Texas falls at No. 3 Ohio StateNew Foto - Full of expectations, Arch Manning struggles as top-ranked Texas falls at No. 3 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Texas' Arch Manning came into Saturday's openerat Ohio Statewith a lot of expectations to live up to. The much-hyped sophomoretook the top-ranked teamon the road to face the defending national champions. Add into that being the consensus early Heisman Trophy favorite, it was no wonder that some nicknamed the Longhorns preseason "Arch Madness." Manning struggled under the weight ofheady expectationsfor three quarters. He nearly led Texas back in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough asthe Longhorns lostto the third-ranked Buckeyes 14-7. "The expectations were out of control on the outside, but I'd say let's finish the book before we judge it," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. "This is one chapter, and we got a long season to go play." Manning accounted for 208 yards of total offense. He completed 17 of 30 passes for 170 yards along with 10 rushing attempts for 38 yards. Manning was 9 of 15 for 38 yards and an interception in the first three quarters. After Texas fell behind 14-0, he completed 8 of 15 for 132 yards and a touchdown, including a 32-yard touchdown pass to Parker Livingstone in the fourth quarter. "We made some adjustments on half. They're a good team. They've got a bunch of good players, obviously. They're the reigning champs. But I thought we could have played better, and I could have played a lot better," he said. What did Manning and the Longhorns in was converting only 1 of 5 fourth-down opportunities. Two of the stops came in the red zone, including a fourth-and-goal at the Ohio State 1-yard line midway through the third quarter when Manning was stuffed on a QB sneak for no gain. "Anytime there's fourth and inches at the goal line, we've got to have those. I got to make more of a push because that was a big swing," Manning said. Manning also got to experience something his uncles Peyton and Eli knew all too well — being stymied by a Matt Patricia defense. The Longhorns averaged 4.5 yards per rushing attempt, and moved the ball well between the 20's, but they couldn't execute on a short field. Manning's only interception — although he had a second one overturned — also proved costly. With three minutes left in the third quarter, he was late on a pass intended for Ryan Wingo and it was picked off by Ohio State cornerback Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the Buckeyes 27 and returned for 5 yards. Seven plays later, Julian Sayin threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Carnell Tate to put Ohio State up 14-0 early in the fourth quarter. It was Manning's first lossas a starting quarterback. He saw action in 12 games last season, including a pair of starts. Despite the loss, Sarkisian said there were things he learned about Manning that will serve him well the rest of the season. "Arch's poise and composure was really good this game," Sarkisian said. "I didn't feel like he got rattled. I've got to let him go play, and so that'll help us. "He gets hit a couple of times. It helps him. Maybe, incorporate a little more of his run stuff earlier in the game, where we waited a little bit into the second half. I think when that happened, I felt like he started really playing and we saw some real flashes and glimpses of the type of player that he's going to become here." ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. NEW YORK (AP) — Jelena Ostapenko apologized on social media Saturday for tellingTaylor Townsendshe had "no education" after losing to her at theU.S. Openearlier in the week, explaining that she intended to call out Townsend for what Ostapenko perceived as poortennis etiquette. Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion from Latvia, wrote in a post that English is not her native language, "so when I said education, I was speaking only about what I believe (is) tennis etiquette, but I understand how the words I used could have offended many people beyond the tennis court." Townsend said she was unaware of the apology when she began her news conference following her doubles victory Saturday. She smiled while listening to a reporter read Ostapenko's post aloud. "That's nice that she did that, that she apologized," Townsend said, adding she has not personally heard from Ostapenko. "That's fine. That's cool. At the end of the day, I think that it's a learning lesson for her. ... It's great that she went to social media and apologized. But I really hope that, from this, she can take that like, hey, you can't control people and it's better just to focus on yourself." After the episode on Wednesday, when the two players had an extended back-and-forth after shaking hands at the net, a reporter asked Townsend, who is Black, whether she thought there were racial undertones to what Ostapenko said on the court. "I didn't take it in that way, but also, you know, that has been a stigma in our community of being 'not educated' and all of the things, when it's the furthest thing from the truth," Townsend responded. Ostapenko wrote on social media that day that she found Townsend "disrespectful" for not apologizing after beinghelped by a net cordduring a point. Ostapenko also complained that Townsend beganwarming upbefore the match up at the net, instead of back at the baseline. Townsendwill play in the fourth round of singles on Sunday. ___ AP tennis:https://apnews.com/hub/tennis

The insult of losing as a two-touchdown favorite to aFlorida Stateteam that went 2-10 last season came with a particularly notable injury forAlabama. In the fourth quarter of the No. 8 Crimson Tide's season-opening31-17 loss against the Seminoleson Saturday, Aug. 30 at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, Alabama wide receiverRyan Williamsexited the game after absorbing a big hit while trying to catch a pass over the middle. To that point in the game, Williams had five catches for 30 yards. REQUIRED READING:Playoff, Heisman, national champion picks. Our college football season predictions Williams exploded onto the college football scene last season as a 17-year-old phenom who had 865 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches while earning first-team All-SEC recognition as a freshman. Here's the latest on Williams' injury: With about six minutes remaining and his team trailing by 14 points, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson attempted to connect with Williams across the middle on a second-and-10, but Williams was unable to hold on to the ball. After the drop, Williams was hit by a pair ofFlorida Statedefensive backs, including Earl Little Jr., who was initially penalized for targeting. Williams remained on the turf after the play and was tended to by Alabama trainers before being able to walk off the field with team medical personnel on either side of him. No. 1 Jannik Sinner gets pushed before finishing off Denis ShapovalovNew Foto - No. 1 Jannik Sinner gets pushed before finishing off Denis Shapovalov

No. 1 player in the world Jannik Sinner of Italy dropped his first set Saturday, but he rallied in familiar dominating fashion to down Canadian Denis Shapovalov 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 at the U.S. Open in New York. Sinner, the defending champion, experienced little trouble in this tournament leading into the match with the 27th-seeded) Shapovalov. But he was put on his heels early on Saturday, falling behind 4-1 in the first set before taking three straight games to even things up at 5-5. Shapovalov answered with a dramatic back-and-forth victory in the sixth before closing out the set. Worryingly for Sinner, Shapovalov dominated on aces 15-2 and nearly bested him on winners, falling 31-30. But the top-seeded Sinner recaptured his usual form by again rallying, this time from down 3-2, to emerge with a 6-4 win in the second set. "It was a very, very tough match today," Sinner said following the match. "I've known Denis for quite a while, so I knew that I would have to play at a high level today. I'm very happy that I managed to win. He started off very well. I just tried to stay there mentally." Sinner again fell behind in the third set, with Shapovalov sprinting out to a 3-0 lead, but Sinner responded with six straight wins to take that set. He finally gained the early advantage in the final set, pressing his 3-0 lead into an eventual 6-3 win. Shapovalov was partly undone by mistakes, enduring 47 unforced errors and nine double faults. The win for Sinner sets up a second-round match with Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik, a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 winner late Saturday over 14th seed Tommy Paul. Bublik, the 23rd seed, had more aces (22-10) as well as more double faults (12-4) but saved all six of his break points while converting three of eight opportunities. Third-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany fell to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the 25th seed, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday night. Auger-Aliassime advanced to the second week of this event for the first time since reaching the semifinals in 2021. "This feels good. This feels good," said Auger-Aliassime, who bested Zverev in winners (50-29). "I've been coming here since 2018. I'm still young, but it's been a few years and I'm working my way. Some of you it might be the first time you're watching me tonight. But this feels really good. "Obviously job's not done. The tournament's still going, but this means a lot to me. A lot of hard work, many years." In other action, No. 15 seed Andrey Rublev of Russia overcame Hong Kong's Coleman Wong 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Rubley had 15 aces and survived Wong's assault of 25. No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti beat fellow Italian countryman Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2, 2-0 with Cobolli retiring with a right arm injury. No. 8 Alex de Minaur of Australia was leading 6-7 (9), 6-3, 6-4, 2-0 in the fourth set when Germany's Daniel Altmaier retired due to a thigh injury. In unranked battles, Spain's Jaume Munar cruised past Belgium's Zizou Bergs 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, and Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi was up 5-3 in the first set when Kamil Majchrzak of Poland retired due to a rib injury. No. 435 Riedi owns the lowest ranking of any player to reach the Round of 16 at a Grand Slam tournament since Richard Krajicek at Wimbledon in 2002. --Field Level Media

Even if you're a national championship-winning program, big victories call for a storming of the field. Florida Statestarted the 2025 seasonwith a major statement, defeatingAlabama,31-17, in the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium. It was a major upsetgiven the Seminoles were coming off a dreadful two-win season and the Crimson Tide had national championship expectations as a team ranked in the top 10. Despite being the underdog, the Seminoles controlled the majority of the game. But the fans still wanted to celebrate the major victory, and they stormed the field the moment the game ended. Conferences have tried to punish teams for allowing fans to storm the field, mostly citing safety concerns. The ACC is not different, introducing new requirements over the summer for field storming after football games. Under the new rules announced in July, schools must develop a security plan to ensure all players, coaches, officials and personnel can safely exit the field of play before fans run onto the playing surface. It applies to football as well as men's and women's basketball. Spectators are allowed to enter the field of play once the visiting team and officials have "safely" exited. Based on video inside Doak Campbell Stadium, it appears fans began storming the field beforeAlabamaleft to the locker room, therefore violating the policy. While it's unknown if it applies to non-conference games, under the new policy, Florida State will be fined $50,000 as a first-time offender. The fine increases to $100,000 for a second offense and $200,000 for the third time. 9 questions for MLB season's final month: MVP awards, managers on the hot seatNew Foto - 9 questions for MLB season's final month: MVP awards, managers on the hot seat

It's Labor Day weekend, and while the playoff races are supposed to get real in September, they're all but over. Let's be honest, the 12 teams that are in playoff position now will be in the postseason beginning Sept. 29, barring epic collapses. Really, all that's left is seeding, and who gets the first-round byes. But as far as who gets into the dance, unless you believe theSeattle Marinerswill choke and be overtaken by the Kansas City Royals orCleveland Guardiansfor the final wild-card berth, everything is set. There are still division races that remain open like the NL West with theLos Angeles Dodgersleading theSan Diego Padres, the Houston Astros over the Mariners and theToronto Blue Jaysfightting off the New York Yankees andBoston Red Sox. But no matter who wins the divisions, they will all be in the playoffs. Even without the usual suspense, there's still a little drama, and here are the top nine questions entering the month of September: The MVP races are making up for the lack of pennant race drama. It's a two-man race between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh in the American League and Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Schwarber in the National League. The Judge-Raleigh race is a virtual toss-up with a month to play. Ohtani is the clubhouse leader in the NL, but if he struggles down the stretch, and Schwarber winds up pushing 60 homers, the dynamics could swiftly change. While Raleigh has hit eight more homers with 11 more RBIs, Judge holds a decisive edge over Raleigh in batting average (.322-.243), slugging percentage (.663-.586) and OPS (1.105-.940) through Friday. Judge, in fact, could become just the third player since 2000 to lead the American League in all three categories. Raleigh is having one of the greatest seasons by a catcher in history. He has already hit the most home runs by a catcher, should pass Mickey Mantle for the most homers by a switch-hitter (54), and has a chance to break Judge's American League record of 62, all while playing Gold Glove defense. If it remains close, Raleigh's best shot at overcoming Judge – winner of two of the past three years – is for the Mariners to win the AL West. Certainly, Seattle needs to at least make the playoffs. Remember, it's the Most Valuable Player award, not the Best Player award, and helping your team to the postseason has proven to be a critical tiebreaker. In the NL, if Ohtani maintains his hitting pace and keeps pitching like he did in last outing – striking out nine batters in five innings – it's over and he wins his fourth MVP in five years. Schwarber has more homers (49-46) and RBIs (119-85), but Ohtani leads in batting average (.278-.249), slugging percentage (.607-.584) and OPS (.994-.955) and they are both DHs. Yet, Ohtani being a two-way player makes the award his to lose every single year, providing he stays healthy. Still, Schwarber, who tied a major-league record with four homers on Thursday, has certainly made this a legitimate race. PREDICTION: Judge and Ohtani will be MVPs once again. This could be a historic winter with perhaps one-third of all teams looking for managers this winter. We have already had four firings with Bud Black of the Colorado Rockies, Brandon Hyde of the Baltimore Orioles, Derek Shelton of thePittsburgh Piratesand Davey Martinez of the Washington Nationals. They were all replaced by internal candidates on an interim basis, with none of the four guaranteed to return, and several already aware the club will look outside. It could be the appetizer for what could be a frenzied offseason of the managerial carousel that could result in as many as 11 changes Brian Snitker, Atlanta: He is expected to retire after 49 years in the organization where he will go down as their second-greatest manager behind only Hall of Famer Bobby Cox. Bruce Bochy, Texas Rangers: Yet to decide whether he wants to return, but has nothing more to prove, is 70 years old, and his contract expires. Ron Washington, Los Angeles Angels: Washington, 73, underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery and has been sidelined since June 20. His contract expires after the season and the Angels have not determined whether they will pick up the club option. Aaron Boone, New York Yankees: You're always on the hot seat when you manage the Yankees. Yankees GM Brian Cashman doesn't hide his admiration and respect for Boone, but the Yankees certainly need to make the playoffs for Boone to retain his job. The big question is how deep in the playoffs they need to go for Boone's job to be secure? Bob Melvin,San Francisco Giants: When you invest $250 million in acquiring Rafael Devers, you don't expect to play like one of the worst teams in baseball for months. The Giants have been a colossal disappointment. Buster Posey, Giants president of baseball operations, declined to address Melvin's fate when asked this past week, but the Giants suddenly are starting to play their best baseball of the season, winning six consecutive games heading into Saturday. Rob Thomson,Philadelphia Phillies: The future is now in Philadelphia. This is a team with a payroll built for a World Series run. Simply making the postseason isn't good enough. If the Phillies have another early exit, it may not be his fault, but Thomson could be the one to pay the price. Rocco Baldelli, Minnesota Twins: It's certainly not Baldelli's fault the Twins had a firesale for the ages. Yet, if they were playing any better, it wouldn't have happened. The Twins are at least two years from contending again. Do they believe Baldelli is the right man to lead them back through the rebuild? PREDICTION: There will be at least six new managers hired this winter. TheNew York Metscertainly made life interesting in the NL East and a little uncomfortable for the Philadelphia Phillies, by clobbering them this past week in New York, making it 10 consecutive victories over the Phillies at Citi Field. This race would be over if only the Phillies didn't have to play the Mets. The Phillies are 75-50 excluding games against the Mets while the Mets are 65-60, a 10-game difference. These two teams have four remaining games against one another Sept. 8-11 in Philadelphia where the Phillies have a 12-5 record against them at Citizens Bank Park since 2023. The Mets are relying in their kiddie pitching corps to lead them to the playoffs while the Phillies, who may have been the team to beat just a few weeks ago, now will have to survive without ace Zack Wheeler. The Mets no longer can rely on Kodai Senga (who hasn't gone six innings since June 6) and Sean Manaea (who has yet to pitch six innings all season). They need rookies Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong to prove they belong. They put them right into the fire, and so far, so good. McLean went 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA in his first three starts – matched in Mets' history only by Tom Seaver. And Tong lived up to the hype in his debut Friday by pitching five innings, yielding 6 hits, 4 runs (1 earned) 0 walks and 6 strikeouts, joining Doc Gooden as the only Met's pitchers under the age of 23 to allow one or no runs in their big-league debut. It's also the first time in Mets' history that they had two starters win their major-league debut in the same season. If McLean and Tong are able to thrive, it could allow the Mets to bolster their bullpen by moving Clay Holmes – who has pitched 142 ⅓ innings, with 63 ⅔ innings his career high entering the season – back into a late-inning relief role. This would give them a rotation of David Peterson, Senga, McLean, Manaea and Tong down the stretch. The Mets believe they can win the NL East, but almost as important, they would love to at least grab that No. 1 wild-card berth for home-field advantage in the wild-card round. PREDICTION: The Phillies win the NL East, but Mets earn wild-card berth. Oh, for the days of Tony Gwynn. There was a 68-year stretch when no National League batting champion produced a lower batting average than Larry Doyle of the New York Giants, hitting .320 in 1915. Then along came Gwynn, the seven-time batting champion who won the batting title in 1988 with a .313 average, the lowest by a champion in National League history. Now, here we are, and Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is the NL's lone .300 hitter. Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (.297) is the only other NL hitter batting higher than .294. Gwynn, who had a career .338 batting average, never batted below .309 since his 1982 rookie season. He hit at least .353 in five consecutive seasons. And he was routinely facing pitchers in the heart of the steroid era. Sure, pitching is tough these days, with a batting average of .246, but it would be awfully embarrassing for the NL winner not to hit at least .300. The worst batting average by a batting champ was Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox when he hit .301 in 1968, leading the American League. Yet, that was '68, the year of the pitcher. It was the year Cardinals Hall of Famer Bob Gibson produced a 1.12 ERA, one of seven pitchers to finish with an ERA under 2.00. MLB responded by lowering the pitcher's mound from 15 inches to 10 inches. PREDICTION: The NL batting champion will be a .300 hitter, but it will set the all-time record for lowest batting average by an NL leader. Remember when the Tigers were considered the best team in baseball? They were 59-34 on the morning of July 9 with the best record in baseball. The same team proceeded to lose 12 of 13 games, later win nine of 10 games, and now just became the first team to be swept by the Athletics in Sacramento. The Tigers still have a commanding lead in the AL Central, but flaws have been exposed on defense and the bullpen. They have Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal, who could shut down anyone, but there's a lot of uncertainty with Jack Flaherty, Casey Mize and Charlie Morton. Mize, who was yielding a 2.63 ERA in his first 15 starts, suddenly has a 7.20 ERA in his last eight starts. They also have a vulnerable bullpen with Will Vest, Kyle Finnegan and Tommy Kahnle as their anchors. PREDICTION: The Tigers still are as formidable as any team in the American League, but to get back to the World Series, they'll need Mize and Flaherty to step up their game. The Blue Jays, underachievers the last few years, finally are living up to expectations. They have opened the door of late for the surging Boston Red Sox and Yankees, going just 11-11 in August outside their three-game demolition of the Rockies. The Blue Jays' rotation is strong with newly-acquired Shane Bieber joining Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer. Their offense is powerful led by first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., shortstop Bo Bichette and George Springer. Yet, their biggest question is their bullpen, which is yielding a 5.60 ERA since the All-Star break, second-worst behind only the Colorado Rockies. Closer Jeff Hoffman has seven blown saves, including three in August, with a 11.37 ERA in his last seven games. The Blue Jays acquired Twins reliever Louis Varland at the trade deadline, but he has been pummeled since joining the Blue Jays with a 6.97 ERA in his irst 12 games, allowing 19 baserunners in 10 ⅓ innings. Seranthony Dominguez has yielded a 4.22 ERA since his arrival, walking nine batters in 10 ⅔ innings. The sizzling Red Sox are the team to watch in the AL East, and have three games left against the Blue Jays in Toronto the final week of the season. Yet, those are the only games the Blue Jays will play against contenders the final 16 games of the season. PREDICTION: The Blue Jays, for the first time in 10 years, win the AL East. Let's put it this way, the Cubs are not going to catch them. The Brewers, who are an MLB-best 20-8 in August, will finish with the best record in the National League, if not all of baseball, and will have a first-round bye. They don't have a star or household name outside former MVP Christian Yelich, but they have a group of players who gets the job done, night after night. Let's see, they have a rookie in left field. A rookie at third base. Two rookies on the bench. A rookie in the rotation. Yet, they are the most complete, fundamentally strong team in baseball with a manager who has brilliantly handled them with Pat Murphy likely winning his second consecutive NL Manager of the Year award. They don't have a slugger but are second in the big leagues in runs scored behind only the Dodgers. They are second to the Rays in stolen bases. They rank third in ERA. They are fifth in Defensive Runs Saved. They don't have a menacing ace, but Freddy Peralta, Brandon Woodruff and Jacob Misiorowski can shut down anyone, along with solid closer Trevor Megill, who is on the injured list with a right flexor strain. The odds tell you they don't match up with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, but the Brewers have defied the odds all season. Why stop now? Besides, how can you not love a team who's mutually hated by MLB owners for defying the theory that a salary cap is needed for a small market team, and also by the union, for proving you don't need to spend money to win. PREDICTION: Odds are stacked against them to win their first World Series title since 1982, but they're certainly due to ruin someone's season They've wasted their fabulous pitching the last two years with their woeful offense. This time, they decided to do something about it. They acquired the Arizona Diamondbacks corner infielders at the deadline in third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Josh Naylor, and led by MVP candidate Cal Raleigh, they finally have an offense to give their stud pitching a chance. The Mariners are dangerous. Really, they would be the scariest team in the postseason, a team no one wants to play. In a weak American League, they have as good a shot as anyone to be playing deep into October. Yet, there's one little obstacle. They have to find a way to win away from Seattle, going 5-12 since July 4 on the road compared to 19-6 at home. PREDICTION: The Mariners make the playoffs, but to play in the Fall Classic? "Wait til next year." Well, once again, it's those Dodgers. They're not invincible. They're not going to win a record 120 games. They're not even going to win 100 games. But here they are, getting themselves together at the right time, leading MLB in runs scored and second in home runs. Blake Snell is back. Co-closers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates are back. Mookie Betts has heated up. And the Dodgers are back to their winning ways, playing as well as they have all season. Prediction: The World Series still goes through LA, and it will be an upset if the Dodgers aren't back in the World Series trying to become the first NL team to repeat since the Big Red Machine in 1975-76. – Someone needs totell Donald Trumpthat neither MLB or the Baseball Writers' Association of America have any say in Rogers Clemens' Hall of Fame candidacy at this point. I voted for Clemens and Barry Bonds all 10 years they were on the BBWAA ballot – but their time ended. Clemens, along with Bonds, will be back on the contemporary era ballot for the first time in three years in November, and need at least 12 votes from the 16-member committee of Hall of Famer players, executives, writers and historians. Considering Clements and Bonds received fewer than four votes last time, he's not going to do it – no matter how often he plays golf with Trump. – If Rangers manager Bruce Bochy decides to retire after this season, the Giants could turn the 2027 Hall of Fame induction ceremony into their own personal reunion. Bochy, the four-time World Series champion, would be a lock joining former Giants manager Dusty Baker on the 2026 committee era ballot and be inducted in the summer of 2027. Former Giants catcher Buster Posey, the Giants president of baseball operations, will be on the 2026 BBAA ballot and almost certainly be be inducted after Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was elected in his first ballot. And Brian Sabean, the architect of the Giants' three World Series champions, could also be on the same ballot as Baker and Bochy. It would be quite the orange-and-black celebration. – The Pirates placed infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa on waiver when he was just 81 plate appearances away from reaching a $250,000 bonus. And that was after getting rid of pitcher Andrew Heaney, who was 8⅔ innings away from reaching a $100,000 bonus. Not a good look for the thrifty Pirates. – The Cincinnati Reds, who badly need a power-hitting bat in the middle of the lineup, would be a natural fit to sign free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso if he leaves the Mets. – MLB executives find it unfathomable that the White Sox will pick up Luis Roberts' $20 million option after the season just so they can trade him next summer. Roberts is out for the season with a strained hamstring after yet another miserable year, and has missed 289 games the past five seasons. He will have virtually zero trade value this winter at $20 million. Do the White Sox really want to take the gamble he can stay healthy long enough next season to trade him, and eat most of his salary just to move him? – It's an easy decision for Atlanta to pick up second baseman Ozzie Albie's $7 million option considering it includes a $4 million buyout. That extra $3 million could be a steal, even coming off his his worst offensive season. – While Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story has an opt-out after this season, it's far-fetched to believe he'd turn his use it after having only one good half of a season since he signed his six-year, $140 million contract. He hit .232 with 21 homers and 29 steals while playing just 163 games his first three seasons, and was hitting .214 with a .582 OPS until June 7. He has been fabulous since, hitting.302 with an .875 OPS, including 13 homers and 13 steals. Yet, to opt out of the final two years and $55 million of his contract would be a financial blunder. – The Phillies would love to have a do-over in their free agent signings last winter. They signed outfielder Max Kepler (.214, .675 OPS) for $10 million, reliever Jordan Romano (8.23 ERA) for $8.5 million to be their closer and reliever Joe Ross (5.12 ERA) for $4 million. Ouch. – The Tampa Bay Rays can't afford to make mistakes in free agency, and certainly the signing of infielder Ha-Seong Kim to a two-year, $29 million contract has been a disaster the first year. Kim, who is expected to be activated Monday, has played in only 24 games all season, hitting .214 with a .612 OPS, and has struggled defensively. Kim has an opt-out in his contract, but considering his struggles, should take the $16 million owed to him in 2026. – MLB, which won't field expansion teams before 2031, will have a tentative expansion fee of about $2.1 billion. It's a considerable hike from the last time baseball expanded in 1998 with the Phoenix and Tampa Bay ownership groups paying just $130 million in expansion fees. – There have been only two seasons in history in which four players hit 50 or more homers in a season: 1998 and 2001 in the heart of the steroid era. This year could potentially set the record with five players entering the month with more than 40 homers Cal Raleigh: 50 (through Saturday) Kyle Schwarber: 49 Shohei Ohtani: 45 Eugenio Suarez: 42 Aaron Judge 42 – You know the Diamondbacks' bullpen has been in disarray all season when they use a franchise-record 16 different pitchers to close games for them this season. – There were only three players who have hit four homers in a game from 2004-2024: Josh Hamilton in 2012, Scooter Gennett in 2017 and JD Martinez in 2017. This year alone, we've already matched that with Kyle Schwarber joining Eugenio Suarez and Nick Kurtz, the most in a single season. There have been 21 players who have hit four homers in a game, and Atlanta has been involved in seven of them, coughing up four homers to Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez and Schwarber this year. – Some of the best trades are the ones you don't make, right? Remember when the Mets were willing to trade Mark Vientos at the trade deadline. Well, since the deadline, Vientos is hitting .292 with seven homers, 19 RBI, 13 extra-base hits and a .996 OPS. – Paul Skenes: 51 career starts, 2.01 ERA. Really. – Former Yankees World Series champion first baseman Mark Teixeira, who kept his political views to himself during his career, announced himself as an ally of Donald Trump, and announced Thursday that he is running for a congressional seat in Texas. "As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I'm running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great," Teixeira wrote in a social media post announcing his candidacy. "It takes teamwork to win_I'm ready to help defend President Trump's America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty." Teixeira, 45, is seeking to represent Texas' 21st Congressional District. – Two winters ago, the Yankees were were forced to take on Trent Grisham and his $5.5 million in the Juan Soto trade. Now, Grisham is having a monster season and is a primary reason the Yankees are sitting in the playoff hunt with his career-high 28 homers, including seven in the last 10 games entering Saturday. – Rays infielder Junior Caminero, the star the Cleveland Guardians gave away in 2021 for Rays pitcher Tobias Myers, was ecstatic to learn that his 37 home runs tied future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols for the most homers by a Dominican player in their age 21 season. Pujols has been a valuable mentor to Caminero. "What he's done this year and who he's passing and who he's putting his name next to," Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters, "you're talking Albert Pujols, arguably the best right-handed hitter in baseball. I know he's at the top of the list, and I'm happy for Cami. "I'm happy for their relationship. I know that they have communicated from spring training and throughout the course of this season. Cami really values him as a person, as a friend, as a leader, mentor. And I appreciate Albert Pujols' relationship with Cami." – Don't be surprised if Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada is given a vacation the next time they face the Dodgers, perhaps in the postseason. Estrada has been fabulous this year against every hitter not wearing a Dodger uniform. He is yielding a 1.36 ERA and has permitted three homers in 53 innings. But, against the Dodgers, it has been ugly: 6 ⅓ innings, five homers and a 18.47 ERA. "A bunch of goofy [stuff] happens in baseball, doesn't it?" Estrada told reporters. "They might even know what color underwear I'm wearing. I mean, I don't even know what the heck it is. … It's a hard game, man. Sometimes it could get to you." _It's embarrassing that teams have used position players to pitch in games for five consecutive days this past week, and six of the last seven. Javier Sanoja of the Marlins has pitched in three of those games. There were actually five games on Wednesday in which a position player pitched. That is a disgrace. – Power outage: Fernando Tatis went 32 days, 27 games and 132 plate appearances between home runs. He hit 12 home runs in his first 44 games in 192 plate appearances, and then has produced only six homers in the 85 games and 344 plate appearances since his torrid start. – Pardon the San Francisco Giants if they petition to move to the NL Central. They went 9-3 against the NL Central powers Milwaukee and Chicago. – The Rays asked MLB to delay the start of their 2026 home schedule and MLB obliged with a nine-game, 11-day road trip in St. Louis, Milwaukee and Minnesota to open the season. It's not quite what the Rays had in mind. – Little wonder Bochy says this this season is the most challenging of his Hall of Fame career. The Rangers just had eight players go on the injured list in a span of 10 days, including season-ending injuries to Nathan Eovaldi, Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Evan Carter and Jon Gray. – Fabulous seeing Angels manager Ron Washington back in uniform last week for the first time since he underwent heart surgery, announcing that he has changed his lifestyle after believing he died on the operating table during his heart surgery. "I remember being in the hospital, and actually I thought I was dead," Washington told reporters, "because I was laying some place where they had put me for a few days. And I said, 'I didn't make it. "So, I started pulling stuff off, and the guy saw me doing it, and he came running in, and he grabbed my hand. He said, 'What's going on?' I say, 'Am I dead?' He said, 'No, you're here.'" – The Arizona Diamondbacks received virtually zero interest in starter Zac Gallen at the trade deadline, with contenders believing he simply couldn't help them get to the postseason. He's 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA since the trade deadline, and yes, he's a free agent this winter. – The Padres sustained a huge blow when veteran shortstop Xander Bogaerts broke a bone in his left foot when fouling off a pitch, but the Padres believe he be back just before the postseason. Bogaerts, who had played in all but three games, was hitting .303 with an .835 OPS since June 19. The plan is for reserve infielder Jose Iglesias to take over the everyday job until Bogaerts returns, with Jake Cronenworth occasionally sliding to short. They insist there is no plan to move former shortstops Fernando Tatis Jr. or Jackson Merrill from outfield to shortstop. – Remember when folks thought that Dodgers three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw was returning for his swan song, and after recording 3,000 strikeouts, could be departing into the night? Well, he just went 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA in August, and is 9-2 with a 3.06 ERA this season. He's been invaluable to the Dodgers this season. – The Mets are scrambling to fix reliever Ryan Helsley, the Cardinals closer who was acquired at the trade deadline, only to blow four saves and yield a 10.38 ERA in his first 11 games. "We've got to look back and see what we're missing here," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza says, "because for teams to have comfortable at-bats like that, something's going on here." – That wasn't Miami, that actually St. Louis where a paid crowd of only 17,675 showed up at Busch Stadium, the first time they drew fewer than 20,000 fans since 1997. – Do you realize we still have not had a no-hitter this year? The last time it happened was 2005. – The Guardians still haven't had a player hit 40 homers runs in a season since Travis Hafner in 2006. That streak will continue this year. – Attention schedule makers: The Yankees and Red Sox are playing only three games against one another after the month of June next season. Come on. – Ben Cherington, now GM of the Pittsburgh Pirates, ventured back to Fenway Park on Friday for the first time since he was fired by the Red Sox in 2015. He was a Red Sox executive from 1999-2015, including the last four years as their GM. – The greatest move at the trade deadline was the Padres' acquisition of outfielder Ramon Laureano. Laureano is hitting .316 with six home runs, 20 RBI and a .968 OPS since leaving Baltimore. _The Cubs are keeping a close eye on All-Star starter Matthew Boyd. Boyd has already thrown a team-leading 153 ⅓ innings, the most in a season since 2019. He threw just 51 ⅓ innings last season, and a combined total of 146 innings the past three years. Boyd could be showing fatigue with a 2.34 ERA the first half, earning an All-Star berth, and a 4.10 ERA the second half. – Kudos to Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene for being a mentor to prized high school prospect Savion Sims, who's expected to be a top five pick in next summer's amateur draft. "He's obviously a great talent and I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to climb and put himself in a good position,'' Greene said. "I'm going to help him in that process as much as I can.'' – Congratulations to Dusty Baker, Cito Gaston, Willie Randolph, and Jerry Manuel, who will be honored in October by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, along with MLB executive Tony Reagins, who'll receive the inaugural JL Wilkinson "Innovator" Award. Drama followed the NFL's greatest coach to college. Can Bill Belichick produce wins, too?New Foto - Drama followed the NFL's greatest coach to college. Can Bill Belichick produce wins, too?

As Bill Belichick was winning six Super Bowls in 24 seasons with the New England Patriots, the coach's teams came to establish certain baseline expectations. They almost always throttled their divisional opponents and projected an air of exacting competency, all while imploring players to focus on football under a credo he repeated ad nauseam: "Do your job." For the first time since he was pushed out of New England in 2024, Belichick will coach a game, when the University of North Carolina faces Texas Christian University on Monday. Seeing Belichick on a sideline again feels familiar. What wasn't was the disarray that surrounded him, particularly throughout the nine months since he took the job in Chapel Hill. It's why, on the heels of a tabloid-filled offseason for a coach considered the greatest of all time — when there was more news about his relationship with his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, than about his coaching — it's anyone's guess what will happen in his first college season. "He's going to teach you the right fundamentals, the right techniques. He's going to have a high expectation for you and you're going to develop a lot. That's what I know," former Patriots quarterback Tom Bradysaid on Fox."I think the challenge for him is he's dealing with probably a lot of underdeveloped players because he's dealt with guys that are four, five, six years further along than what he's normally had to deal with. I think there's probably a learning curve for him." The marriage between this coach and this school was one few saw coming. Including his time as an NFL coordinator, Belichick owns eight Super Bowl rings; North Carolina, meanwhile, boasts just eight double-digit-win seasons in its 121-season history. At UNC, basketball is one of the school's traditional powers; its football program, however, is not. In a bid to become one, North Carolina swapped out the oldest active coach in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision, 73-year-old Mack Brown, for a 73-year-old successor who would hold the same distinction. The idea that Belichick, who had coached in the NFL for his entire career, since he was 23, would leave for the college ranks was so unexpected that former Patriots stars Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski and receiver Julian Edelman laughed off the possibility last December. "Getting out there on the recruiting trail and dealing with all these college kids, that would be frightening," Bradysaid on Fox. "Could you imagine Bill on a couch recruiting an 18-year-old?" Edelman said. That was Dec. 8. Three days later, Belichick was sitting in a packed press conference in Chapel Hill, being introduced as the next UNC coach. He wasn't universally thought to be the man for the job; according to ESPN, hiscandidacy divided the school's leadership. When Belichick promised to operate North Carolina like the NFL's "33rd team," it promoted his big-league bona fides. Yet it was also a reminder that none of the league's 32 teams had opted to hire him during the two hiring cycles since he had left New England, despite being only 15 wins shy of passing Don Shula for most all time. His best shot came in 2024 when he interviewed with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank; however, a conversation Blank had with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, whose relationship with Belichick had deteriorated, may have undermined Belichick's chances, according to ESPN. Belichick spent last season out of football not by holing up in retirement at hisbeachfront home in Nantucket, but by doing something that seemed to be the least favorite part of his 49 years in the NFL — going on a media blitz. Dour and evasive behind a lectern in New England, Belichick poked fun at himself and former players at a 2024 roast of Brady, appeared regularly last fall on two ESPN broadcasts, analyzed plays on a CW show, and hosted or co-hosted multiple podcasts. He also wrote a memoir, "The Art of Winning," whose publicity campaign last spring raised questions around his relationship with Hudson and whether it would affect his ability to do his new job. Asked during a taping of a CBS morning show about their relationship, Belichick, wearing a ragged sweatshirt that became his calling card in New England, said he had "never been too worried about what everyone else thinks." But when Belichick was asked how the two had met,Hudson, sitting off camera, cut in. "We're not talking about this," she said. Belichick later released a statement defending Hudson for "simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track" and claimed the two had met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021. Belichick would later say that Hudson, who is not employed by the university, "doesn't have anything to do with UNC football." Weeks into taking over in Chapel Hill, however, Belichick reportedly asked that Hudson be copied on certain emails. And according to emails releasedunder public records requests, Hudson had suggested to university officials how to shape public relations around the hiring of Belichick's son Steve as the school's defensive coordinator. In May,Belichick supported Hudson's bidto become Miss Maine USA by sitting in the pageant's front row. (Hudson finished third.) As tabloid attention grew around Belichick's personal life, former Patriots players recalled with irony how the coach constantly stressed the importance of minimizing public distractions. "When you were on the Patriots, the whole goal was to eliminate all the distractions that can possibly happen while you're on the team," Gronkowskisaid in May."And don't bring those distractions to the team and in the locker room. And we're just looking down at the program in North Carolina and it just feels like there are just distractions 24/7 down there. There's just no football talk at all." Edelman, the former star receiver, also described questions about Hudson's role with the team and the coach as "a distraction." "That's what we all think right now. It's becoming a distraction. We gotta practice what we preach here,"Edelman said in May. Belichick and Hudson's relationship isn't only personal, but professional. This month, a company applied for more than a dozen Belichick-related trademarks through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office — including "Gold Digger," "Chapel Bill (Bill's Version), "The Belichick Way" and "Dynasty (Bill's Version)." Thatcompany lists Hudsonas the manager. When Belichick wasn't facing questions about Hudson, he was being asked about how his NFL acumen would translate to college. "There's no owner, there's no owner's son, there's no cap, everything that goes with the marketing and everything else, which I'm all for that. But it's way less of what it was at that level," Belichicktold The Boston Globe. "Generic NFL teams, you have the owner, president, general manager, personnel director, college director, pro director, cap guy, some other consultant, then head coach. I'd say when we had our best years in New England, we had fewer people and more of a direct vision. And as that expanded, it became harder to be successful." Building a roster has been the biggest change, he told the Globe; instead of tracking more than 300 NFL free agents, UNC hosted more than 4,000 prospects during the offseason. Still, for all of the scrutiny UNC faced during the spring, it could financially win the fall even without a notable bump from last season's 6-7 record. Revenue generated by the football team is projected to increase from $12 million last season to $19 million, a UNC officialtold the Globe. In the school bookstore, sleeveless Tar Heels hoodies are beingsold for $84.99. During Belichick's tenure in New England, the Patriots never allowed "Hard Knocks," HBO's all-access NFL docuseries, to film the team. Yet a Hulu docuseries will follow the Tar Heels in 2025. For better or worse, attention is on Belichick and North Carolina — and how well he will, ultimately, do his job.

Making Kansas City Chiefs roster the easy part. It's all about scoring a wedding inviteNew Foto - Making Kansas City Chiefs roster the easy part. It's all about scoring a wedding invite

The 53-man roster isn't the only cut forKansas City Chiefsplayers to make. Taylor Swiftand Travis Kelce'sweddinghas been called America's royal wedding and that's not far off. She's the most famous woman on the planet, an icon for both hermusical talentsandbusiness acumen. He's the biggest name in this country's biggest sport, a three-time Super Bowl champion who had already made thepop culture crossoverbefore they started dating. Their wedding guests will be a "Who's who" of entertainment, sports and fashion, and no one's going to want to miss it. Unless Swift and Kelce have their big day at Arrowhead Stadium, however, choices will have to be made. Given that the Chiefs players, coaches and their significant others alone would be about 200 people, some are bound to be left out. Here's a look at who's on the A team, who's on the practice squad and who's going to be a free agent when it comes to the Wedding of the Century: Andy Reid. The Kansas City Chiefs coach, who knew Swift's father from his days with thePhiladelphia Eagles, played matchmakerfor the two. Of course he's on the guest list. Heck, they should have him officiate. Pop star Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelceannounced their engagement on Aug. 26, 2025. The couple began dating in the summer of 2023. Look back at their time together, including here, at the game between Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers during the Stanley Cup Final at Amerant Bank Arena on June 12, 2025, in Sunrise, Fla. Patrick Mahomes. Duh. He and Kelce are BFFs — Kelce wasone of Mahomes' groomsmenwhen the quarterback got married — and his wife and Swift have become fast friends. He's not only going, he's probably in the wedding party. Xavier Worthy.Swift was so excited when the Chiefs drafted the speedy wide receiverthat her friends wondered if she'd lost her mind. He's done nothing since then to temper that enthusiasm. The entire offensive line. Offensive skill players know who's responsible for their success. Chris Jones. This one is a little tough because Swift had bonded with Jones' former girlfriend, sitting together at games and posing for photos together. But Jones is, along with Kelce and Mahomes, the face of the Kansas City franchise and the captain of its defense, so he gets priority. Kareem Hunt. Kelce has long been one of the running back'sbiggest supporters, calling him "family" after last season's AFC championship. Hunt also got an invite to theEras'-themed birthday partyKelce threw for Swift last season, and was in a group photo with Kelce, Swift, Mahomes and center Creed Humphrey. Isiah Pacheco. He and his longtime girlfriend joined Swift and Kelce in Kelce's box forThursday night's gamebetween Cincinnati, Kelce's alma mater, and Nebraska. Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis. They're both anchors of the defense. More significantly, they were both drafted by the Chiefs and have spent their entire careers in Kansas City. Drue Tranquill. Integral part of the defense but this is only his third season with the Chiefs. Rookies. Coveted as these invites will be, they're going to need to do something to make a big impression. Except Jake Bringingstool. Tight ends gonna look out for tight ends. Bryan Cook. A defensive player, so might not know Kelce as well as other teammates. He did go to Cincinnati, however. Ryan Reynolds. He's the head strength and conditioning coach/director of sports science, not the one married toBlake Lively. Still, might not want to risk a mix-up. Harrison Butker. A guy who thinkswomen are second-class citizensinvited to the wedding of the biggest Boss Lady there is and the guy who loves nothing more than to spotlight and celebrate her and her successes? Hah, hah, hah. I can't even say it with a straight face. Follow USA TODAY Sports columnist Nancy Armour on social media @nrarmour. Garrett Nussmeier's TD pass rallies No. 9 LSU past No. 4 ClemsonNew Foto - Garrett Nussmeier's TD pass rallies No. 9 LSU past No. 4 Clemson

Garrett Nussmeier threw a tie-breaking touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and No. 9 LSU rode a stifling defense to a 17-10 victory over No. 4 Clemson in the season opener for both teams Saturday night in Clemson, S.C. Nussmeier completed 28 of 38 passes for 230 yards and LSU outgained Clemson 354-261 to snap a five-year losing streak in openers. Cade Klubnik completed 19 of 38 for 230 yards with one interception for Clemson. Clemson drove to the LSU 30 on the first possession of the second half, but missed an opportunity to increase its 10-3 lead when Nolan Hauser was wide right on a 48-yard field-goal attempt. LSU took advantage on the ensuing possession by driving to set up Caden Durham's 2-yard touchdown run that made it 10-10 with 8:59 left in the third quarter. LSU missed a chance to take the lead on its next possession when Damian Ramos was wide left on a 46-yard field-goal attempt. On the fifth play of the fourth quarter, Nussmeier threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Trey'Dez Green to give LSU the lead for the first time, 17-10, with 12:18 to play. Clemson drove from its 43 to the LSU 15 on its final possession, but Klubnik's pass on fourth-and-4 was incomplete. The defenses reigned in the first half as well. LSU's second possession ended with a fumble at its 48 that Clemson's Ricardo Jones returned 24 yards. After two incompletions and a rush for no gain, Hauser kicked a 42-yard field goal to give Clemson a 3-0 lead that held up through the first quarter. On the seventh play of the second quarter, Ramos kicked a 52-yard field goal to tie the score. Clemson responded on the ensuing possession with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that included a conversion on fourth-and-2 that led to Adam Randall's 1-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal. LSU drove to a fourth-and-2 at the Clemson 12 in the final seconds of the second quarter, but Chris Hilton Jr. caught a pass from Nussmeier for a 1-yard loss before losing a fumble. That left Clemson with a 10-3 halftime lead. --Field Level Media

Kevin Jennings tosses 2 TDs in No. 16 SMU's win over East Texas A&MNew Foto - Kevin Jennings tosses 2 TDs in No. 16 SMU's win over East Texas A&M

Kevin Jennings threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another to lead No. 16 SMU to a season-opening 42-13 victory over visiting East Texas A&M on Saturday night in Dallas. Jennings completed 22 of 30 passes for 260 yards and one interception in addition to his two scoring tosses to lead the Mustangs to their seventh consecutive season-opening win. SMU struck on its third offensive play when Jennings found Romello Brinson wide open for a 63-yard touchdown. Brinson caught seven passes for 121 yards. Alexander Kilgore came up with a wild interception for SMU that he returned 10 yards for a touchdown with 5:32 left in the first quarter. Cameron Robertson appeared to intercept the pass from Will Madonna, but had the ball popped loose as he began to secure it. The ball bounced off Kilgore's foot and up, allowing him to corral it and take off to the end zone. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Kilgore appeared to hurt his left ankle during his scoring play. He immediately exited to the locker room and did not return. SMU receiver Jordan Hudson was also lost to injury as he appeared to hurt his left shoulder area while being tackled on the first play of the game. Ahmaad Moses returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown for the Mustangs on defense. East Texas A&M, which is coming off a 3-9 season and is now eligible to compete for the FCS playoff berth, got its first points from Ozlo Rigby's 29-yard field goal with 5:20 left in the second quarter. Rigby also made a 32-yarder as time expired in the fourth, and missed a 22-yarder in the first quarter. Eric Rodriguez entered at quarterback in the second quarter in relief of Madonna and completed 14 of 30 passes for 191 yards and an interception. Rodriguez scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:55 left in the game for the Lions' only touchdown. East Texas A&M ran for 107 yards collectively. --Field Level Media

Want-away Brentford striker Yoane Wissa slams club for 'unduly standing in my way'New Foto - Want-away Brentford striker Yoane Wissa slams club for 'unduly standing in my way'

LONDON (AP) — Brentford striker Yoane Wissa says he wants to leave the Premier League club and that it's "unduly standing in my way." A day before the end of soccer's summer transfer period, Wissa posted a lengthy statement on social media on Sunday criticizing Brentford for rejecting an apparent offer from another Premier League club despite his willingness to switch between the teams. Wissa, a reported target for Newcastle, isyet to play for Brentford this seasonand had already removed any association with the club from his Instagram account. On Sunday, the 28-year-old Congo international took it a step further on the social media network. "Earlier this summer, I held open discussions with the club's senior management, including key directors and the new head coach," Wissa wrote. "I made clear my intention to explore a new challenge. During these conversations, it was confirmed to me and my representatives that the club would not stand in my way if a reasonable offer was received. This was also put in writing." Wissa said he thought Brentford had reached an agreement with the other club over his transfer but it has since "significantly changed its position, going against what was communicated. This has left me in a difficult and frustrating position. The commitment that I could leave this summer has not been fulfilled. It saddens me to have to write that, and I maintain total respect for the club and its fans." Wissa was sixth in scoring in the Premier League last season with 19 goals and formed a strong partnership with Bryan Mbeumo, who netted 20 but has since moved to Manchester United. "This has never been about walking away from what is a fantastic football club," Wissa wrote. "It's about being allowed to move forward with Brentford's blessing based on a repeated commitment made that I could leave for a new chapter this summer. Being made to stay beyond this summer will only tarnish four wonderful years at this incredible club." ___ AP soccer:https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

Devon Dampier leads Utah to 43-10 victory over Nico Iamaleava and UCLA in season openerNew Foto - Devon Dampier leads Utah to 43-10 victory over Nico Iamaleava and UCLA in season opener

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) —Devon Dampierled Utah's attack in the air and on the ground in a 43-10 victory over touted transferNico Iamaleavaand UCLA on Saturday night in the teams' season opener. The former Pac-12 rivals each sported new quarterbacks and new offensive coordinators. Iamaleava led Tennessee to the College Football Playoff last season and then abruptly left to head closer to home and play for the Bruins (0-1). He was 11 of 22 for 136 yards with one TD and one interception. Offensive coordinator and QB coach Tino Sunseri came to Westwood from Indiana, where the Hoosiers averaged 41.3 points — second-best in the nation — and reached the CFP. "We know we can be better than that," Iamaleava said. "It all came down to execution and we didn't do that at a high level." Dampier followed offensive coordinator Jason Beck from New Mexico to Salt Lake City after the Lobos ranked fourth in the FBS with 484.3 yards per game a year ago. Dampier was 21 of 25 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. "I felt like we were clicking on all cylinders," Dampier said. "We played football at our best." Both quarterbacks were their teams' leading rushers. Dampier led the Utes (1-0) with 16 carries for 87 yards, while Iamaleava had 13 carries for 47 yards. "When the situation comes that I've got to run the ball, I'm going to run the ball," Dampier said. "I'm doing what I got to do for my boys." The Utes led 20-0 on TD runs of 13 yards by Wayshawn Parker and 8 yards by two-way star Smith Snowden in the first quarter. The team piled up 256 yards of offense in the first half and finished with 492. "That's where most of my pregame butterflies came from, knowing I was going to go out there and play some offense," Snowden said. "The offense went out there and took care of business. It was a great team win." The Bruins' lone TD came on Iamaleava's 19-yard pass to former Utah player Anthony Woods in the second quarter. By The Numbers Utah had 286 rushing yards to 84 for the Bruins, who also managed just 220 total yards. The Utes had 30 first downs to 14 for UCLA. Utah had the ball for 15 minutes more, too. The Takeaway Utah: Dampier and Beck picked up where they left off in New Mexico and that should bode well in curing last season's offensive woes. Another New Mexico transfer, NaQuari Rogers, scored the Utes' final TD. UCLA: It's going to take more than Iamaleava to create excitement. His debut drew just 35,032 to the Rose Bowl, and many Bruins fans left early while Utah fans made a strong showing. Up Next Utah hosts Cal Poly on Sept. 6. SEATTLE (AP) — Jonah Coleman had 177 yards rushing and two touchdowns as Washington beat Colorado State 38-21 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Demond Williams Jr. was 18-of-24 passing for 232 yards and a touchdown for Washington. Williams, who completed 78% of his passes last season, was efficient in the Huskies' season opener, connecting on eight of his first nine passes, including a 22-yard completion to Coleman for a fourth-down conversion in the first quarter. Coleman ran for a 26-yard touchdown immediately to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead almost four minutes into the game. Each of Washington's first three touchdowns, though, were followed by Colorado State touchdowns. A bobbled snap by Williams deep in Rams territory led to Colorado State tying it entering halftime thanks to a Jalen Dupree rushing touchdown that made it 14-all. Denzel Boston made a one-hand touchdown catch while being interfered with by a Rams defensive back, giving Washington a 28-21 lead late in the third quarter. Grady Gross kicked a 24-yard field goal late and Coleman's 3-yard TD run capped the scoring with 1:41 to go. The Huskies had 283 yard rushing and limited Colorado State to 265 total yards. The takeaway Colorado State: Sophomore linebacker Owen Long impressed all evening, racking up 13 tackles, 11 solo. Long had 15 solo tackles as a freshman. Washington: Boston's 92 yards receiving were the fourth-most of his career in a single game. The junior wideout had two 100-yard games last season, and is expected to be the Huskies' leading receiver in 2025. Up next Colorado State: Hosts Northern Colorado next Saturday. Washington: Hosts UC Davis on Sept. 7. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign uphere.
